Summer Energy Savings
During the hot months of summer, Georgia Air Contractors can help keep you cool and save on your energy bills with a few helpful tips.
First, if you are having to continually run your air conditioning unit, there is a good chance your home is not very energy efficient.
There are several places that are essential to an efficient home energy system.
Make sure you have your Cooling system maintenanced. A dirty filter and condenser coil can make you Cooling system have to run longer and harder to reach the desired thermostat temperature. Having your system properly maintenanced can significantly reduce your utility cost!
Another big contributor to high energy cost is your insulation. The insualtion in your attic, in your walls, and in your basement ceiling play a huge roll in keeping your home temperature comfortable.
In your attic you can either cover your ceiling joists like a blanket using rolls of insulation or blown in. Make sure you are covered completely from edge to edge. You also have the option to do a spray on foam insulation on the bottom side of your roofing, this is the most efficient solution, but at a higher price.
In side your exterior walls, in between the studs, should be a layer of insulation. If you have an older home this may not be the case, but in most newer homes this is standard. You will rarely find insulation inside interior walls, though it certainly does not hurt anything to have that.
If in fact you do have a basement that you are trying to heat and cool, the exterior walls should also have an insulation barrier. However, if you are not interested in maintaining the temperature in your basement, it would only be necessary for you to insulate the basement ceiling.
Lastly, you should take a look at your windows. If you have an older home with the original windows, there is a good chance you are losing energy through them.
A cheap and easy solution to save some energy even if you have older windows is to hang some heavy draps in front of them. While the drapes do not work as well as newer double pane windows as far as insulating, they will help keep the temperature outside from distrupting your inside temperature as quickly.
