What can our HVAC repair company in Atlanta, Ga do for you?

Sunday, July 25th, 2010

It’s easy to understand why homeowners don’t realize all that an air conditioning company can do for them. Life is full of things to worry about without having to think of the systems that power your house.

That’s why having a good relationship with your HVAC company can keep you comfortable and happy in your home year round.

Other than fixing your broken equipment, some companies can help you in the following ways:

  1. Minimizing sneezing and discomfort by installing air filtration devices. Spring and into summer are prime times for sneezing because of the warmer weather and all the new plant growth. Many people sneeze while in their homes. What they may not know is that they can reduce the amount of allergens (sneeze-causing elements) in their homes using air filtration devices. At Georgia Air Contractors, we use primarily the Trane and Aprilaire systems to keep our customers comfortable and healthy.
  2. Helping you be green and save money by making your house more energy efficient. HVAC companies can perform an Energy Star Home Test for your property. After the test is complete, your home will be more comfortable and you’ll be helping the environment. (Find out more about this test, by mhartford

Atlanta Air Conditioner Repair

Atlanta Air Conditioner Repair

Atlanta has been hit hard by storms the past few years. Your home may need an air conditioner repair after the hard rain and lightning passes through due to power surges. In the United States, power surges are responsible for hundreds of millions of dollars of property damage every year.

Since summer thunderstorm season has arrived, the weather is not expected to get better. The tips provided in this article can help keep you safe and your home cool without having to spend more money.

When bad weather is approaching, it is recommended that homeowners turn off their air conditioners. If you don’t, power surges from lightning can overload the compressor, resulting in an expensive repair job.

Maybe it hasn’t happened to you … yet. But after a storm ends, air conditioner companies are flooded with calls from people who say their a/cs have quit working or that warm air is circulating in their homes. We all know it can be very humid in Atlanta, so you don’t want to be uncomfortable in your own home.

What happens when you’re relaxing inside as the rain falls outside, and you think your air conditioner is hit by lightning?

  • You want to document everything for insurance purposes. Take pictures, or even videos, of the storm and any damage caused to your home. Check to see if other electronic appliances were also damaged.
  • Go look at your thermostat. If it’s an electric one, make sure it still has power. If it doesn’t work, you might want to check your breaker. Still not working? Call a repair company, such as Georgia Air Contractors to make sure that you stay comfortable.
  • Check the outdoor condenser to see if the breakers are on. Reset them.

Some other lightning safety tips:

July is the worst month of the year for lightning strikes, according to the AJC.
http://www.ajc.com/news/july-worst-month-for-570788.html Georgia is also in the top 10 of the most dangerous states for lightning related injuries and deaths.

  • If you can hear thunder, you are close enough to the storm to be hit by lightning. Lightning can strike up to 15 miles away from a storm.
  • Find shelter inside, or in a car (without touching metal).
  • Do not stand anywhere near a tree if you are outside.
  • Don’t run water, take a bath or a shower.
  • Don’t use appliances, including TVs.
  • Avoid using corded telephones unless it’s an emergency.
  • Watch your local weather station to stay updated.

Homeowners in Atlanta, it’s important that you take precautions so that you don’t need to repair your air conditioner.

Atlanta HVAC Contractors, What To Look For Before You Hire

Sunday, July 25th, 2010

We are your Atlanta HVAC Contractors

Searching online for Atlanta HVAC contractors certainly returns many options, so how do you choose the right one for you?

Choosing the right one determines how much you pay and what products you get.

How do you make the right choice to ensure that your home is comfortable and you don’t spend too much money or get equipment that breaks?

Asking for recommendations from friends and family is one good tactic. A good reputation usually equals a quality business. (On this Georgia Air Contractors website, you can see testimonials from our clients on the sidebar on the left.)

You can also consider the following criteria:

  1. Is the contractor qualified, licensed and insured? As of 2008, residential and general contractors are required to be licensed by the state of Georgia, according to the Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association. Contractors also have to undergo continuing education training to make sure they stay current on their services and knowledge.
  2. How long has the company been in business? Seeing how long a business has been open can help you decide whether they will provide the services you need for your home. In Atlanta, you can look up HVAC conractors on the Better Business Bureau website. As you can see, Georgia Air Contractors has been open since 2006.
  3. Check to see if the contractors you’re wondering about belong to the Air Conditioning Contractors of America (ACCA) or the Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors’ National Association (SMACNA).
  4. Make sure the company provides you an estimate after physically looking at your equipment.
  5. Good contractors should be able to estimate the annual operating costs (energy bills) for the equipment they are proposing for your home, according to Contractor Business Magazine.
  6. Pay attention to how everyone at the company treats you when you call with questions. They should all be professional, helpful and knowledgeable about any heating and air or related concerns that you may have.

Energy Star also has 10 tips for choosing from all the HVAC contractors. Here are eight of them:

  1. Study up. Search the company and see what you find.
  2. Ask for referrals. Call the company and see if they can provide you with names and numbers of other customers who have used their service.
  3. Call references.
  4. Find special offers. Check for HVAC specials in Atlanta.
  5. Look for Energy Star qualification. Energy Star appliances are recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
  6. Expect a home evaluation.
  7. Get written, itemized estimates.
  8. Get a written proposal.

Georgia Air Contractors offers HVAC service for residential and commercial properties in the Atlanta and surrounding area.
