A Smarter Thermostat

Friday, August 5th, 2011

How would you like for when you set your thermostat to be 75 degrees when you get home at 6:00pm for your home to actually be 75 degrees when you get home?  The problem with some programmable thermostats is that when you set your temperature at 6:00 pm for 75, the thermostat doesnt start working towards that temperature until 6:00 pm.

You could always set the thermostat to come on at 5:00 pm so that the house is cool when you get home, but what if its doesnt take that long to get to your ideal temperature?  Then you have wasted energy!  Here is where adaptive intelligent recovery comes in…

Adaptive intelligent recovery is found on Honeywell programmable thermostats and is often called Smart Recovery.  It is a function which allows the thermostat to track how long it takes to pre-heat or pre-cool a room during the changing seasons. It uses this information to start heating or cooling a room prior to the start of a programmed period.

This means that if you set the thermostat to come on at 6:00 pm and the room temperature to be 75 degrees; then at 6pm the room is exactly 75 degrees. You won’t have to try and guess how long you should set the thermostat before you wake up or arrive home from work.  This also only requires a gradual heating or cooling which is much more energy efficient.

Let us, Georgia Air Contractors, install one of these thermostats for you today and start enjoying the comfort and savings of smarter thermostat!

If the one in your home is dirty or old, it can’t do its job, which means you and your family won’t be as comfortable as you could be. Energy Star recommends checking your filter every month, especially in summer. Before Georgia sees temperatures in the 90s, it’s a good idea to check yours now.
  •

  • Tune up your HVAC equipment. Your system will get heavy use in the summer, especially in the Atlanta metro. That’s why it’s a good idea to check out your system now. Once you set it up, you won’t have to change it again until the season changes.Proper use can save you $180 per year, according to Energy Star.  A good rule to follow is not set yours below 78° F.
  •

  • Seal your cooling ducts. Ducts can be huge energy wasters if not maintained. Sealed ducts improve air flow and air quality. Getting yours checked now can reduce energy costs and ensure that you get the air you pay for.
  •

  • Install New Energy Star qualified cooling equipment. Qualified equipment runs better. If you choose to get new equipment, make sure it’s installed correctly. Increase House Value with Energy Efficient Home Improvements

Thursday, April 14th, 2011

A new energy efficiency measurement for homes.

Do you want to increase the value of your house and save money?

If you’re a home owner, of course you do…

One thing that is becoming increasingly more important to consider is energy efficient home improvements.

You’ll especially want to make some changes, if you are looking to sell your house one day.

New houses are being held to higher standards. To be attractive to buyers, your home will need to be energy efficient.

One of the nation’s largest builders, KB Home, announced a plan to produce a EPG (Energy Performance Guide) on each of its U.S. houses soon. Other builders plan to use their ratings.

The easiest way to understand EPG is to think of it like the MPG rating for cars. MPG predicts how much gas per gallon a car gets, while the EPG rating will predict how much utilities per month your house will require. This means you won’t have to worry about your monthly costs and budgeting your money will be easier.

The EPG is for new homes, however, the U.S. Department of Energy is developing a home energy score for existing homes. It will estimate how much people can save on their homes by making upgrades.

We can suggest energy efficient home improvements for you and help increase the value of your house with our Energy Star Home Test. We serve Atlanta and surrounding cities in Georgia.
