Benefits of Open Cell Foam Insulation

Friday, January 6th, 2012

This Atlanta customer decided to improve their home with open cell foam insulation.

So what were some of the benefits to consider?

Well, open cell foam insulation provides an effective air seal which greatly reduces energy loss and improves the over-all indoor air quality of your home. The difference you can actually feel in your home can be quite remarkable.

Open cell foam expands to fill every opening that can potentially leak air and seals the home to result in a more energy efficient living environment.

It also reduces the penetration of moisture and outdoor allergens that can affect the comfort of your family.

As an extra benefit, open cell foam insulation acts as an incredibly effective sound barrier for wind and traffic noises.

If you are a Georgia Power customer or a City of Atlanta resident, you could potentially save even more by adding open cell foam to your home and applying for the rebates currently offered!

Money Saving Tips for this Winter

Friday, November 18th, 2011

Here are just a few Money Saving Tips to keep your home more efficient and comfortable!

Check weather stripping around doors and windows.
Damaged or no weather stripping can allow for increased energy cost. A good way to check to see if your weather stripping needs to be changed or added is to close the door and see if light is coming through; if so, then new weather stripping needs to be added.

Keep heating vents and registers clear.
Make sure your vents and registers are not covered or blocked by curtains, furniture, or debris. The vents should be cleaned regularly with a vacuum or broom.

Maintenance of your heating system.
Maintenance can prolong the life of your heating system and reduce energy cost. Filters should also be changed during the maintenance to improve air quality. Dirty filters can reduce the efficiency and operating cost of your heating system. See our Service Contract to find out more about how we can set up annual maintenance for you!

Keep fireplace dampers closed when not using fireplace.
When using the fireplace, make sure the dampers fit tightly.

Cover bare floors.
Carpeting adds heat retention if there is no floor insulation. Floor insulation can be beneficial as well to save on energy cost.

A Smarter Thermostat

Friday, August 5th, 2011

How would you like for when you set your thermostat to be 75 degrees when you get home at 6:00pm for your home to actually be 75 degrees when you get home?  The problem with some programmable thermostats is that when you set your temperature at 6:00 pm for 75, the thermostat doesnt start working towards that temperature until 6:00 pm.

You could always set the thermostat to come on at 5:00 pm so that the house is cool when you get home, but what if its doesnt take that long to get to your ideal temperature?  Then you have wasted energy!  Here is where adaptive intelligent recovery comes in…

Adaptive intelligent recovery is found on Honeywell programmable thermostats and is often called Smart Recovery.  It is a function which allows the thermostat to track how long it takes to pre-heat or pre-cool a room during the changing seasons. It uses this information to start heating or cooling a room prior to the start of a programmed period.

This means that if you set the thermostat to come on at 6:00 pm and the room temperature to be 75 degrees; then at 6pm the room is exactly 75 degrees. You won’t have to try and guess how long you should set the thermostat before you wake up or arrive home from work.  This also only requires a gradual heating or cooling which is much more energy efficient.

Let us, Georgia Air Contractors, install one of these thermostats for you today and start enjoying the comfort and savings of smarter thermostat!
